Rumination 2023-2026

Since October 7, 2023, I have been crafting small jars on a small wheel. This repetitive act has become a form of recurring meditation—a ritual I return to not with a productive aim or a desire to create something new, but as a way of coping with a time suspended by war.Because I did not have access to a kiln to fire the clay, I used epoxy resin to preserve the jars and give them a weight that made them difficult to move. The jars transformed from objects intended to be carried and exchanged into fixed objects, frozen in place.The work originates from my father’s souvenir shop near the Church of the Wedding in Cana of Galilee, where jars were purchased by foreign visitors as objects carrying the story of the place. During the war, these jars lost their role as vessels of memory and storytelling, remaining in silence, waiting for someone to listen.The work reflects on the experience of Palestinians living in Israel who carry the memories and narratives of the place yet find themselves in a moment of isolation and silence—caught between the desire to tell their stories and the absence of those willing to hear them.
