Rumination 2023-2026

Since October 7, 2023, I have been crafting small jars on a pottery wheel. This repetitive act became a meditative ritual—not to create new objects, but to cope with time suspended by war. Without access to a kiln, I preserved the unfired clay with epoxy resin, making the jars heavy and immobile. They transformed from vessels meant to be carried and exchanged into fixed objects, frozen in place. The work draws on my father’s souvenir shop near the Church of the Wedding in Cana of Galilee, where such jars were once purchased by visitors as carriers of the place’s stories. During the war, they lost this role, remaining silent and waiting to be heard. The work reflects the experience of Palestinians living in Israel, caught between the desire to tell their stories and the absence of those willing to listen.
